Kevin Scott Thorpe, employee of Hanna Boys Center in Sonoma, is facing sexual abuse charges following his arrest this past weekend. The charges were brought forth based on a victim of Thorpe who alleged the sexual abuse while Thorpe was employed as a counselor at the Catholic home for at-risk boys in Sonoma Valley.
The now 23-year-old male victim came forward to report the sexual abuse that allegedly occurred between 2006 and 2011. The victim would have been 13 to 18 year old.
Kevin Scott Thorpe reportedly used his position of authority to place the victim in fear that he would be removed from the Hanna Boys Center if he reported anything. Based on the victim’s testimony, detectives believe there may be additional victims, either at Hanna Boys Center or in the community where Thorpe volunteers in a youth ministry program for teenagers.
Hanna Boys Center is a school for the rehabilitation of young men who have suffered adversity and trauma in childhood. The arrest is the latest allegation of failed oversight at the center. Last fall, a 22-year-old female counselor was fired and charged with molesting a 17-year-old male.
Thorpe was hired 14 years ago as a youth counselor at Hanna Boys Center.
